There was a change in the stock differential ring gear diameter & has been reduced from 114mm to 113mm to allow for a larger rivet.If there is a car down issue then the only other alternative is to replace the ring and pinion with the earlier version. These axle seals come with the flange attached so you don need to reuses yours. You need to replace these if you notice transmission oil leaking from the arear behind where your axles meet the transmission.

These is the axle seal for all 5 speed manual 02J transmissions. PLEASE NOTE: This differential will only fit up to 3/2004. Axle Seal: Jetta, Golf, & New Beetle 98-06. Place the bars of the tool over the tops of the M8 bolts, and now tighten the top 17mm nut to force the tube/bolts/flange down, and release the spring tension on the circlip.
O2J Kit also includes 8 o-rings, 5th gear cover gasket, & 2 drive flange bolts. Thread the M8 bolts into the flange and thread the M10 rod into the center of the stub axle in the middle of the flange. All differentials have been heat treated, Sub-O, and shot peened. All parts are from billet material and CNC machined to the closest factory specifications. Differential housings are made from either 4320 or 8620 steel.
